Riley’s Raw Thoughts: Trials that lead to triumph
Conviction – “the quality of showing that one is firmly convinced of what one believes or says.” AKA believing in oneself.
This week I had a powerful experience opening up to a friend.
We were deep in a psilocybin journey, and began discussing my life journey.
I realized that not many people actually know what I’ve experienced – and I haven’t told my story fully.
- I have experienced and witnessed sexual, physical, emotional, and mental abuse.
- I first used drugs at age 12.
- I lost my brother to heroin at age 16.
- I’ve been let down a lot by people I loved and cared about.
That really isn’t even scratching the surface… and I don’t write this for pity.
During that conversation with my friend I received what I was looking for in that journey: Unwavering Conviction.
My why, the drive I have, and the conviction I’ve developed comes from the darkness.
How could I not believe in myself, or my mission? Why would I ever let all of that be for nothing?
I believe life has been training me all of these years to really be able to help others.

What I am building & learning:
First off – I finished my damn website (minus a few tweaks to fix my blog pages on mobile lol)
It feels damn good to have it done!
Second off – I just built a multi-million dollar business in about a week.
All because I visualized winning a business contest called “The Skool Games” and now I was blessed with the idea to win. You can check it out here: The 6-Figure Solo Agent School.
Third off – My free community (Break The Cycle Tribe) crossed 10+ members, and the weekly calls have been value packed for my members.
I am learning that delusional self belief, combined with dogged determination, and no “plan b” can lead to some incredible things.
Stay tuned.
How I recently won & failed:
I recently won by opening up to my friend Gavin (from above).
I am always helping others, and it felt really good to be on the other side.
Thanks Gav, I love you brother!
I recently failed by repeating a lifelong pattern.
Overcommitting myself to several things at one, that all have a self created high standard, and set me up to drop the ball.
This leads to me being self critical, and super pissed off haha!
But, I am learning and realizing that I have limits… and that’s ok.
Story & Lesson: I almost did heroin at age 14
There are times in everyone’s life where one decision can change their trajectory forever.
When I was 14 years old I saved myself from certain death.
- My girlfriend had broken up with me, and I was incredibly sad.
- My brother (age 16) and cousin (age 25 ish) were active heroin addicts.
They saw that I was sad, and wanted to cheer me up.
Next thing you know they were taking me to a “movie.”
“Hey, wasn’t that the theater? Where are we going?” – Me
“We will be there soon, don’t worry” – Them
Next thing you know, I am in Salt Lake City late at night and we are buying heroin… then driving to a McDonalds parking lot.
“Take a hit.” – Them
“I don’t feel good about this guys, I don’t want to.” – Me
“Riley, don’t be a Pussy take a hit you’ll be fine.” – Them I checked my gut, it was screaming at me not to take a hit.
“No. I won’t do it” – Me Next thing you know, they are high as a kite driving me around until late at night.
I think back to that day, and realize that had I smoked heroin I would be dead right now. And sadly, my brother didn’t make it as the years went on.
Hurt people hurt others. Always trust your gut. Grow through what you go through.
Be the one in your family, life, culture, or in society that stops the madness.
Questions & Answers: How do I build a better relationship with my parents?
How did I build a better relationship with my parents?
The other night during that journey, Gavin asked me how I rebuilt and improved my relationship with my parents.
- Realize that they are people just like you, doing the best they can / could, and have their own traumas they deal with.
- Be the change you want to see. Initiate the conversations (Especially hard ones). Let them know how much you love them, and that you appreciate them. Seek to understand them, and have compassion.
- Work on yourself. Be a leader, and they will respect you for it. Break the cycles that have held your family back, and be a good example. By me doing these things, my relationship with my parents has never been better. The crazy part? It’s improved my relationship with myself. They are who made me after all, and the more I understand and love them – the more I’ll understand and love myself.
