Riley’s Raw Thoughts: Life advice found on reddit
Something on my mind & heart:
Now I wouldn’t normally recommend anyone take what they see on reddit to seriously.
It’s basically the wild west of the internet, and to some point does more harm than good at times.
However today I saw something powerful reposted that I had to share:
How can we change the narrative about ourselves and our lives?
Lately I’ve been stuck because of the narrative I’ve adopted about myself.
This was as slap in the face and powerful reminder.
What I am building & learning:
Currently brainstorming how to go about everything I am building in a way that aligns with the 3-5 year vision:
- Be a well known thought leader with a large audience and voice for the people.
- Own a retreat center and homestead property.
- Retire my parents.
Specifically with these retreats I am running.
“Begin with the end in mind.”
What do I post about? What do I offer in my communities? etc.
I guess what I am learning is I still have a lot to learn, and do.
Emphasis on do… action normally creates momentum and clarity.
That is what I am needing in the present moment.
Side note – this week is our October Co Ed retreat! Next month is Novembers retreat, and then our next one won’t be til March.
If you are interested reach out soon to get on our list.
How I recently won & failed:
A recent win: I broke 200 subscribers on youtube lol!
Recent fail: I am in need of a dopamine detox.
Maybe you can relate?
I find myself getting sucked into social media… there is a lot going on in the world at the moment.
It has disrupted my work flow, mental health, and quality of life quite a bit.
I guess it’s apart of being alive nowadays, like it or not.
Story & Lesson: The drowning man
I saw a story of a man who is going to rough out Hurricane Milton on his sail boat.
Someone tried to talk him out of it, and his response was “Nah, God has got my back.”
Now, I wish this man the ride of his lifetime and a safe conclusion to his adventure… but it got me thinking.
Have you ever heard the story of the drowning man?
One day there is a massive flood approaching a town.
In this town there is a pastor at a church who is downright devoted.
“Pastor, you need to leave the water will be here anytime now.” – Concerned Citizen
“No thank you, God will save me.” – Pastor
Some time passes, the town evacuates and the pastor stays behind.
The town floods.
They send in rescue boats.
“Pastor we need you to come with us, the water is rising in your church and you could die!” – Rescue-man
“No thank you, God will save me.” – Pastor
More time passes. The church is completely covered in water. The pastor is on the roof.
They send in a helicopter.
“Pastor take the rope. We can get you out of here but you’ve gotta be quick. You are about to be treading water.” -Rescue-man
“How many times do I have to say it? No thank you, God is going to save me!” – Pastor.
They leave. The pastor drowns.
He gets to “heaven” and asks God “Why didn’t you save me??”.
“I tried to! I sent you the townspeople, a boat, and a helicopter!” – God
Whether you believe in “God” or not, the message is powerful.
The moral of the story?
Whatever higher power exists is always present in our lives.
- Guiding us with the voice inside.
- Helping us with opportunities.
- Challenging us with growth.
You know what it doesn’t do?
Come out of the sky to save you.
You’ve gotta wake up, and see all of the resources around you.
They were placed there by “God” to help you.
Don’t be like the stubborn pastor.
Good luck to my friend on the sailboat, and love to those about to be hit by the hurricane.
